Beethoven’s Heroic Style in a Tumultuous Sonata

Read about the Beethoven minifestival held at Mannes School of Music earlier this month. Highlighting an ethos of heroism, students and faculty gave lectures and performed under the direction of pianist Thomas Sauer. Among the performances was a dramatic rendition of the Kreutzer Violin Sonata, which inspired Tolstoy’s novella by the same name. How has Beethoven inspired you?
